Understanding P-Values

The p-value is the probability of obtaining results at least as extreme as the observed results, assuming the null hypothesis is true.

Interpretation:

  • p < 0.01: Highly significant
  • p < 0.05: Significant
  • p < 0.10: Marginally significant
  • p ≥ 0.10: Not significant

Common Z-Scores:

  • z = ±1.645 → p ≈ 0.10 (two-tailed)
  • z = ±1.96 → p ≈ 0.05 (two-tailed)
  • z = ±2.576 → p ≈ 0.01 (two-tailed)
